Rev. Brenda Lucas
Senior Pastor

Bishop Scott Jones of the Texas Annual Conference has appointed Reverend Brenda Lucas to be the Senior Pastor of First United Methodist Church of Jefferson and Smithland United Methodist Church as of July 1, 2017. Rev. Lucas will be coming to Jefferson from Mt. Pleasant and has a great deal of pastoral experience within close proximity to Marion County. We look forward to welcoming her leadership.

Brenda and her husband, Steve, have been married 45 years. They have two sons and nine grandchildren. They also took care of a foster son for three years until he turned 18 while their other children were teenagers.

Steve has many talents as he owned his own transmission repair shop from 1985 until Brenda went into ministry in 1997. He then worked for Marshall Mobil Homes as the warranty repair man. He is now disabled and dabbles in woodworking. He also enjoys hunting and fishing. Brenda and Steve are owned by three beautiful cats.

Paula Youngblood
Church Secretary

Paula began her career with First United Methodist Church in April 1982. She makes sure the church functions on a daily basis, producing bulletins, newsletters, local advertising and maintaining the church calendar. Paula’s ministry often does not get the attention others may, but the church could not manage without her.

In her leisure time (what there is of it), Paula enjoys country music and going to music concerts. She enjoys spending time with her children, daughter and son-in-law, Regena and Jamie Nelson; son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Amy Youngblood; and son, Michael. She has eight grandchildren, Austin, Shelby, Ashton, Tyler, Nikki, Hunter, Bryan and wife Jessica, Rebekah and one great-granddaughter, Mila Grace and one great grandson, James Jaxon.

Melinda Boyd
Director of Music Ministries

Melinda has joined our staff directing our music ministries. She serves as our worship accompanist and the director of our choir. Melinda comes to us with a wealth of experience – having served in Music Ministry for the past 31 years. This experience includes accompaniment and direction (of church choirs, senior adult choirs and children’s choirs). She teaches piano, guitar, and voice out of her home music studio, located between Jefferson and Marshall. She’s a member of the National Music Teacher Association, Texas Music Teacher Association, and Texas Federation Music Club. In her spare time, she’s about a retirement home ministry – playing at several different homes in Marshall each week. Melinda enjoys what leisure time she has with her husband, Harold.
